about
This song was written in 2010 as I was trekking through the beautiful Jumla region of Nepal in the high Himalayas. The local people were so kind and welcoming, and I stayed with two different families in rural villages, and swam with local boys in their favorite swimming holes in the ice-cold rivers that run through the valleys. Twice I sat in the dimly lit, dirt-floored homes around the stove and spoke in my limited Nepali, and used a lot of gestures to tell about our lives. It was a life changing experience for me, and on the last day before leaving, I sat at the edge of a rice paddy in the crisp, clear morning, and I wrote this song. With the high E string of my guitar broken, I managed to tie the ends together and tune it as high as C, and with that unusual tuning, and the wonder of the past two weeks of trekking in my mind, the melody and words came easily, and the song was finished by the time I got on the plane.
On the track I played the guitars, bass, and I programed the drums, and sang the melody.
lyrics
Blue smoke rises, morning
mountain shadow, icy
golden glow on far off peaks glides down the valley
warms the frigid silence
men appear on rooftops
smoking pipes that keep them coughing
first step off the plane its chilly
long road ahead now
soon its breakfast served on silver
sitting in a field
villagers stare with hands clasped
greeting the smile that lights my face up.
Jumla
Jumla
what a place to go
don't know when I'll come home.

My wonderful wife Laura Goodspeed sang harmony, along with my sister in law, Rebecca Clark. My brother in law Drew Clark played the Djembe. I recorded, mixed, and mastered the song myself in my home studio.
Full vibrato intensity fills the melodies of Timothy Goodspeed's vocals. The music is never stagnant and the words brim with
poetic protests, and winding stories of adventure.
